I am a huge fan of Elle Decor, and having bought Elle Decor: So Chic which is fabulous, I had high hopes for this book. Sadly, I was disappointed. There are a few nice rooms, but the rest range from boring to downright ugly!

I only buy books I can preview as I hate returns. To date, I’ve been very happy with my purchases and with the quality of service Amazon delivers. I was introduced to two great designers I’d never heard of-Stephanie and Kelly Hoppen. How great it is to get a sneak peek inside and find my style-urban contemporary-and enjoy page after page of striking photography. I get carried away.

This book’s content was a terrible disappointment. First of all, the room setups and designs are absolutely unimaginative. The furnishings look like IKEA purchases and the constant repetition of the designs looked repetitive page after page. There is a cheapness in the furnishings that have no art form to them and they appear to be all made by the same guy with a hacksaw and some pine wood. Sorry, it just has no elegance or variation in its approach. I get the feeling I’m in some kind of small studio apartment with furnishings that are attempting to look modern and cutting edge, but ending up being tacky and noisy. The rooms are extremely cluttered, looking more like storage attics than beautiful living quarters. There is no visual invitation for the viewer to find his way into the settings. The color schemes are drone and blan and the textures are all the same. There is so much repetition of the geometric forms of the rectangle, whether in the pillows, sofas, or decor that it becomes boring within the first few pages. Unfortunately, each page is filled with the exact same look and same mono-note style throughout the whole book. The content is not very informative and simply offer quick snippets of info on the designer’s names here and there. I am definitely sending this book back because it was absolutely worthless.
