This book was totally useless for a crafter or anyone that is creative. Too bad I didn’t get the book from the library before I brought it. Good thing I didn’t pay much for it. If you are creative or a crafter not much to get inspiration from.

I really expected more from this book, based on all the rave review from Amazon. As someone who is an avid collector of vintage lunchboxes, comic books, guitars, dinosaur fossils, vintage monster movie posters, and tiki stuff (among other things), I was looking forward to seeing how others displayed such collections; not much of that sort of thing in this book however (okay, there was a photo of some electric guitars on a wall, but what about the amps? Would like to have seen how people mix those into their decor).
The photos in this book have about as much personality as most stock art photography (at first perusal, I thought that the bulk of the pics in this book WERE stock photos). Also, when something rather cool is pictured, its usually only a close-up of the item, so you get no sense of how it relates to its surroundings, or how the overall room looks. Most of the cartoon collectibles featured in this book seem to have just been from one room, you’d think that for something like they’d have photographed at least a few different collectors’ homes.
There were a few photos of things I was somewhat interested in; a very small Pez collection, a Simpsons figures collection, a very small Blondie collection, a somewhat lackluster snow globe collection, etc. It seems like every other photo in this book though is either of flowers, candles, or hearts or a combination thereof. This is a book created by women (two sisters) FOR women. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes its hard to get a sense of that sort of thing from online reviews…if you’re a straight guy, there’s not much here that’s going to appeal to you, no matter how wacky and offbeat your tastes are. The sisters who put together this book have typical American suburban taste, and are not nearly as ‘weird’ of ‘funky’ as they seem to think they are. For instance, their 3 plastic penguins are not featured just once, but in THREE different photos (lots of filler throughout the book)and even with a “Penguins Crossing” sign – lame.

This book is so fun and funny that I find myself smiling every time I pick it up – it just makes me feel good. And it has given me ideas about how to brighten or lighten up a corner, a nook, and a whole room. Yes, we hung Bozo (with the musical nose) up in the bathroom – it’d been collecting dust in the garage. We gathered all my very old stuffed animals that were scattered throughout the house and filled a corner chair that is never sat upon. And our bedroom is slowly but surely becoming a tropical paradise. I can’t wait to see what the O’Neils do next.

First let me say that my decorating capabilities would qualify me for hall of shame on ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’. It is with this ham-fisted sense of decor that I started reading.
The O’Neil’s have written a breezy, funny, wonderful book. You can always hire somebody to rebuild your house. Its the less-than-massive-scale decorating that kills us. This book fixes that problem right up!
To my amazement, I was laughing and learning about how to add a sense of fun and style to my dreary surroundings. This book is HILARIOUS. And it provides real insight on how to take the clutter of life (which you’ll never get rid of) and make it into a fashion statement.

This book should be featured in the Humor section as well as the Home Decor section – it’s that funny. A wonderful blend of wit and vision – beautiful to look at, and with chuckles on every page. Great to keep around on your coffee table for guests to browse, or to give as gifts to friends who always have a lot of stuff around. A must!
